Chakras, by definition, are energy centers within the human body that help to regulate all its processes, from organ function to the immune system and emotions.  Chakra healing is very important for both our physical body and our spiritual body.  There are 3 keys to chakra healing: Opening the chakras, Balancing of the chakras and Healing techniques.  The opening of the chakras allows the energy to flow freely.  Balancing the chakras create a harmonious and sustainable flow of the energy through the body.  The process of healing chakras is aimed at influencing how the energy moves throughout all of the chakras. Vitamins, minerals, and other natural substances are shown to have an incredibly potent effect when administered directly into a patient’s vein. Intravenous (IV) nutrition therapy, or vitamin cocktails, is a method used to "feed" vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and amino acids directly into the patients bloodstream and bypass the digestive system. Tammara’s focus at the Center for Health & Wellness is the prevention of disease and healing with a patient centered approach to healthcare (Functional Medicine). The Center for Health and Wellness believes that optimal health and wellness is the cornerstone to longevity, and identifying the underlying causes of disease by focusing on the whole person is key in getting, and keeping, patients healthy and happy.

Functional Medicine defined is: "a patient-centered approach that addresses the underlying cause of diseases". With this approach, both the patient and the practitioner are in a therapeutic partnership. When patients are part of this therapeutic team, they become more empowered to take ownership of their own well-being and healing.

Functional Medicine is a type of healthcare that is respectful of, and responsive to, the individual preferences of the patient. Practitioners spend more time with their patients to learn about their medical history and look at the interactions between genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term medical issues and chronic diseases. In doing this, the practitioner looks at the patient as a whole, not just a set of symptoms. Functional Medicine focuses on prevention and overall health promoting lifestyle change and sustainable treatments that address the underlying cause of dysfunction thus restoring patients to optimal health.


The primary difference between conventional medicine and functional medicine is that the focus of care is driven by wellness. The goal of conventional medicine is to identify diseases by recognizing patterns of symptoms and treating them with drug-based therapies, while the goal of functional medicine is to promote health and vitality in each patient. Functional medicine is designed to treat the patient by identifying the underlaying cause of the disease and then personalize a treatment protocol for each individual patient.

Benefits of Fermented foods

Roughly 70-80% of your immune system is in your gut.  Your gut is considered your 2nd brain and it  is very important to take care of.  One way to do this, is to make sure it is stocked with healthy bacteria by adding fermented food to your daily diet at least twice a day.  The importance of fermented foods has been filling up newsfeeds and social media recently due to the known benefits it has with a healthy body.  It may seem like a “new trend”, but it is anything but new.  Fermented foods have been around for centuries.  For thousands of years, people knew how to preserve vegetables and fruits without the use of refrigeration or canning machines we have today.  Cultures from around the world have been eating fermented foods for years from Sauerkraut in Germany to kimchi in Korea, and everywhere in between.  Sadly, with the advances in technology and food preparation, these time-honored traditional foods have been largely lost in our society.  Instead of the nutrient rich foods, full of enzymes and probiotics that our ancestors ate, the average diet today consists mainly of sugar laden, lab created foods.
Foods that have been through a process called lacto-fermentation become fermented foods. During this process, natural bacteria feed on the sugar and starch in the food which creates lactic acid.  This preserves the food, creates highly beneficial enzymes, b-vitamins, Omega-3 fatty acids, and various strains of probiotics that are essential for gut health. If your gut is not “fed” properly of healthy bacteria, it will be left with little defenses and easily overwhelmed by bad bacteria.  This then leaves your gut open to disease-triggering inflammation and bogged down with gastrointestinal upset like gas, bloating, constipation, and diarrhea.  You may also be more susceptible to something as simple as a cold.  When you have a healthy and balanced gut, you can send illnesses packing.
If you are a beginner to fermented foods, try a variety of organic veggies and fruits as the possibilities are endless.  The more popular ones are: beets, blueberries, pickles, olives, raw cacao, radishes, tomatoes, onions, garlic, kimchi, green beans and sauerkraut.  For dairy eaters, yogurts, kefir, cultured buttermilk and some cheeses are a good option.  For non-dairy eaters, yogurts made with coconut milk may be an alternative.
